I first met Ava in the Chinese province of Jiangxi in 2007. A social worker brought Baby Ava Qi (chee) to a hotel where I, then an elementary principal in Amman, Jordan, waited anxiously. Now we celebrate the adoption with a special dinner each year on December 2, Gotcha Day. Every time she kisses me, it reinforces how much we love each other.
