MARTHA DELANEY and SCOTT RUSSELL recently bought a unique house. It’s a dome home and much larger than their previous house. It seemed SO spacious to them that, according to Scott, they had been discussing “how we could be generous with the space.” Generosity. An integral factor motivating every Smooch! Project Hero, including Martha and Scott. Here’s how this played out in their case: I get invited to dinner. (How generous is that!?) I see their new beautiful home. (I had no clue they had moved.) I tell them all about recent Smooch! developments. (I know, I can go on and on!) They get excited about the project. (Frankly, it’s hard NOT to, IMHO!). They offer to host (i.e., sponsor) a private Smooch! shoot within their home as part of their upcoming open house celebration (My jaw hits the floor.) In that instant, Scott and Martha became Smooch! Project Heroes, those amazing open-hearted — generous! — people who decide to step up and support this effort. I am so very grateful to Scott and Martha for their help. But I often wonder what motivates the Heroes. After all, at its core, The Smooch! Project is my personal art effort. So I asked Martha & Scott why they decided to support the Smooch! “We know about matching grants. It’s tough raising money,” said Scott. “Plus we were looking for an excuse to have a whole bunch of people over.” Martha added that it “would be fun for people at our open house while benefiting a good project at the same time.” Truly a win-win situation. But The Smooch! Project offers far more and I think Martha really nailed it with her comment. “The Smooch! Project is fun but, at a deeper level, it also stirs our deepest purpose — connecting with one another.” Well said, Martha! Well done, Heroes! Thanks so much for your support.
