LORI YANG connected with The Smooch! Project via a fortuitous and happy “accident.” This open-hearted, generous woman — who refers to the world as ‘beloved’, is an avid follower of Playing for Change, “a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music.” While exploring the PFC blog, Lori happened to come across a story written about The Smooch! Project. A link brought her to our website, where she discovered we were holding a Smooch! shoot in less than two weeks and within a mile of her home. From her viewpoint, it was all far too synchronistic to be other than divine intervention. “The Smooch Project! photos carried this resonance of love that just rippled out from the pictures,” Lori said. “It was just all these acts of unconditional love where the (smoocher) is not asking for anything back.” She immediately volunteered to help manage the upcoming shoot and thereby become a Smooch! Project Hero. Lori also brought her 7-year-old daughter to help out. I was so pleased for the opportunity to capture their beautiful archive photo, Lori luvs Harper. But her involvement with The Smooch! Project did not end there. Lori’s central motivation is unconditional love. “That’s the impulse at the heart of every religion, from Buddhism to Christianity,” she said. It’s what connected her to PFC and thereby to the Smooch! Project, It’s also the link she made between the Smooch! and another cause she wholeheartedly supports: Be the Match, a worldwide bone marrow registry. Lori organized a block party/marrow donor drive and found a sponsor to support a Smooch! shoot during this event. Get the details here. I feel blessed to know Lori.
