JUDITH JAMES is many, many things. A published writer. A Quaker. A professor. A peace activist. A friend. Just to name a few. Lucky for us, Judith is also a Smooch! Project Dreamer. Anyone who knows her understands she is not one to mince words, a personal characteristic I value highly in her. As is true for most organizations, we absolutely require direct and incisive vision. Judith brings that — and so much more — to the table. In her no-nonsense way, she makes a strong stand for peace, justice, equality, and community-building. A perfect match for The Smooch! Project! And — Wow! — does she work hard on behalf of this project. Already Judith has handily supported one fundraiser and has taken the lead on another, much larger effort. She is also in charge of collecting 100 stories from past participants, to be added to our renovated website in early 2011. I’ve known Judith a long time (since the 1980s, when we worked together to launch a community newspaper) but more than 20 years passed before we once again teamed up for The Smooch! Project. I was curious as to what caused this energetic woman to come forward and place her considerable skills toward this project. It was the photos, of course. Judith views The Smooch! Project Archive as “a way of making community, seeing goodness in everyone, a very simple way of creating the potential for peace.” And what does Judith love best about the project? “How the project is so inclusive,” she said. “Everyone can be a part of it — the homeless, the rich, animals, guitars — no one is excluded.” I could not have said it better. Obviously, Judith is an awesome fit for The Smooch! Project, which has already benefited greatly from her volunteer efforts. I look forward to seeing what Smoochy future is in store for this one-woman dynamo. Thanks so much for your help, Judith! You are greatly appreciated.
