JEFFREY EBELING did his best to teach me but I was way too freaked out to truly listen. It was April 2009 and we were sitting in a restaurant discussing Facebook. Jeffrey had generously volunteered to set up a Facebook page for The Smooch! Project and show me how to utilize this fast growing networking tool. I had agreed to the idea but had far too many reservations, mostly having to do with the amount of time it would take to maintain an ongoing, professional-level social media presence. No doubt, getting The Smooch! Project on Facebook was a great idea. But I was afraid because I felt like there were already too many tasks on my list of to-do’s. Maintaining a Facebook presence meant an ongoing time commitment, something I was unsure I could manage without help. It seemed best to wait until a suitable volunteer showed up, a happy occurrence that came about 14 months later. In June 2010, The Smooch! Project officially launched its Facebook page (check it out here). It was built upon the original page that Jeffrey had set up more than a year ago. His early effort and ongoing support earned him his Hero status. I was really happy when he was able to convince his two sons (Evan, 14, and Drake, 18) to participate with him in a Smooch! shoot. Jeffrey recently returned to his hometown of Mason City, Iowa. He wanted to simplify his life to focus on his last year in grad school. His Master of Fine Art (painting) will be completed in June 2011. No website to share at the moment but his paintings are beautiful. So is he. Thank you, Jeffrey, for your generous heart, your support of The Smooch! Project, and for being a good friend. Your help to get this project on Facebook proved invaluable. Good job, Hero!
