EVY & DAVE SCHROEDER had never heard of The Smooch! Project until a friend of a friend invited them to share an empty storefront during the huge street event called The Uptown Art Fair in the fall of 2008. None of us had ever met before. I had been told that Evy created beautiful jewelry (which is true!) and I was looking for artists to help cover rental costs for the three-day weekend, smack dab in the middle of the fair. We were planning our first multi-day Smooch! shoot event and all artists sharing the space were asked to help manage the shoot. As we were preparing the space, Evy and her trusty sidekick husband of 29 years, Dave, arrived to check out the location . . . and me as well. Luckily, we made a good impression: Evy offered to bring in a big fan to help us keep cool during the upcoming hot and humid weekend. They were in! Over that three-day shoot, Dave & Evy not only displayed and sold their beautiful wares, they also stood out on the street corner and personally invited passersby to participate in the shoot. It was hot. It was humid. It was grueling. Evy’s fan was put to good use. At the end, when we were breaking down and packing up, these two volunteered to return the rented tables, even though they needed to be delivered to the opposite end of town from their home. Oh, I remember feeling SO grateful! Too bad it took me two years to write their Hero story, but better late than never! Thanks so much for your help and support, Evy & Dave. You two really made a difference in great big shoot so early in Smooch! history.
